RedDoorz Plus @ Centrium Katamso Medan

I booked four rooms, and every one was very dirty. There were lots of marks on the walls, including shoe stains, and the bathroom looked like nobody had ever cleaned it. I've never seen anything like it. The photos I posted show what I mean. The Agoda pictures looked nice, but the real place didn't look good at all. Such a disappointment.

The room was comfortable and inexpensive, and there's a tasty restaurant outside the hostel. They only serve breakfast, though, with no lunch or dinner. If you've got a lot of luggage, be aware you'll have to carry it upstairs. Still, it's a good place to stay.

The rooms weren't terrible, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. I spent two nights before my flight and was first given a clean room with air conditioning and a warm shower, but no window. They could move me to a room with a window for the second night, in a different building. At 23:00, just as I was falling asleep, the room started shaking. The building next door was a nightclub, mostly for middle aged people. I went in out of curiosity. There were maybe 10-20 women and 5 men dancing, but the DJ had the music and bass turned up so high that it shook my walls. The staff were really friendly, but they weren't from the area. They couldn't help with public transport or city sights, and didn't tell me the other building was next to a nightclub.

My first impression was good: the location is strategic, and you can get outside without getting rained on. There's also free hot and cold water to refill.
