The location is the main reason to stay at Hotel Bromo Permai 1. It's close to the Bromo viewpoint, so getting to sunrise doesn't mean a long drive, and the mountain air and lovely surroundings are right outside. The hotel itself is basic and somewhat dated. Rooms have few amenities, and the bathrooms need better upkeep. Nights get very cold, with no room heaters, so bring warm clothes. Staff are friendly, but service is average. The restaurant food is okay, nothing special. It's convenient for a short Mount Bromo stay, though less comfortable than other options. I'd give it 3 out of 5, an average hotel made handy for Bromo sunrise tours by its location.

The price is reasonable, and breakfast was good. Hot water is available, though it takes a while to come through and the flow is a bit slow. Good service.

The staff were so hospitable and went out of their way to make sure I could eat safely. They provided food that was coeliac safe and gluten free. I recommend it!

You can't beat the location, right on the caldera edge, with outdoor seating and views. The reception and restaurant area feel modern and welcoming, and the food is good. The rooms are very old and run down, though still comfortable enough. For a great sunset photo spot on the caldera rim, turn left at the front and walk about ten minutes.

The bedding was old and smelly, the shower had no hot or cold water, and the WiFi didn't reach the rooms. For four times the price, it felt about the same quality as a 200rb homestay.
