Bromo Holiday Guesthouse

There’s parking on the property and a beautiful view. I booked through WhatsApp and paid 225k for a double room near the road. The room was clean, and the hot water and WiFi worked well. Two blankets were provided, and on a sunny day we didn’t feel cold. Jeep traffic on the nearby road picks up between 2-4am and 9-10am. Some rooms are very close to it, while others are at the back, so ask when booking. Hot water is also available at reception.

We agreed to take a room for 250.000 IDR after they showed it to us and said it would be ready. We went outside to watch the sunset, and when we came back, the room had been given to someone else. That’s very poor management. I wouldn’t risk arriving here and suddenly having nowhere to sleep. We found another room just 50 meters away without much trouble, for less than half the price.

It’s a useful base for exploring Bromo and the surrounding area, but the noise is a lot. The house is beside the main street, and there seems to be a jeep meeting point for guides next to the rooms. When they start talking and turn on engines at 2am, it gets even louder. Bring earplugs. The room itself is basic but clean.

We were there for only a couple of hours, so it did the job. The place was pretty clean, at least. Beds were rock hard, the water swung between painfully hot and ice cold, and you shower over the toilet. It’s about as basic as accommodation gets, maybe even simpler.
