Elen villa by ABM

The host, Elen, was incredibly kind and welcoming, and offers a good price compared with other homestays. It’s around a kilometer from Bromo’s main village, but the beautiful scenery makes up for the distance. The spacious, well-maintained rooms are a great choice for groups. There’s a kitchen for making meals or a quick tea or coffee. Next door, Jiro Cafe is open only at night and serves a delicious dinner.

There’s nowhere to eat or find anything else nearby, and walking to food, public transport, the national park entrance or the sunrise path means another half hour strictly uphill. If you arrive with a backpack thinking this is a good base for visiting Mount Bromo on foot, be prepared for that trek. The place wasn’t clean either: small insects in the bed, dead spiders in the window, and a bathroom that hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Definitely not worth the struggle.

The rooms were very spacious, and the hosts were helpful. A wonderful place to stay while visiting Mount Bromo.

Elen guesthouse was great. The room was clean, with hot water and a double blanket. You can just ask her if you need help arranging transport. The best hospitality in the area, and I’ll definitely come back.
