Gapul Penida

The green setting and outdoor spaces were lovely, and my room was spacious. I especially liked the semi-open bathroom, warm shower with good pressure, and the porch. The blackout curtains actually kept the room dark at night, which I appreciated. Staff were friendly, and I could order food and drinks directly. The chicken burger was okay, the banana pancakes were really good, and they brought dessert to my room. I wasn't having the best day, so relaxing in bed with it was a treat. Breakfast was good too, I had eggs with toast and tea with milk. The smell in Room 01 was the problem. It was strongly musty and moldy, and even the pillow and blanket smelled odd. That made it hard to feel comfortable or rested. My travel partner in the room next door didn't notice the same issue, so it may depend on which room you get. Check-in also took longer because nobody was at reception when we arrived, and there seemed to be a booking issue, maybe Agoda hadn't passed it along properly. The road is a bumpy gravel track, so be careful on a scooter. I liked the atmosphere and the staff, but the smell really spoiled the stay for me. Without it, the place would have been good value.
