Rickys Beach House

Tout was perfect, merci to the whole team! The location is superb and secluded, and the staff are super friendly. The trips inland and to nearby islands were great, away from over-tourism. One of the best spots in Indonesia. At night there was great live music, including top karaoke with a backing band playing rock, pop, grunge, and more. It makes you feel like a rock star!

What made Ricky’s special was the sense of community. It felt like a homestay, singing karaoke with the staff, dancing to a live band until 4am, laughing like locals, and feeling welcomed. We left with full hearts and tears in our eyes. Everyone felt like family, and Ricky himself seemed like a real-life superhero. This is more than a place to stay, it stays with you. If you get the chance, go. We went island hopping by boat each day, reaching crystal-clear waters that often felt like our own private island. Local guides made everything easy and authentic. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were included, and they thoughtfully made delicious food for us as vegetarians. We also got to help release baby sea turtles into the ocean. The effort supports local wildlife and gets the community involved in conservation. Everything spent at the hotel goes back into the village, supporting education, sports, English lessons, and a brighter future for the children. We visited the village, met the kids, and saw the positive impact Ricky is making. Their English is impressively good!

The food was a highlight of my 10 days there. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and delicious, and I didn't have a single meal I didn't enjoy. The scenery was breathtaking too, with picture-perfect beaches and stunning views that made me want to stay. More than anything, the warm, friendly people made Ricky’s Beach House in West Sumatra feel like home. From the moment I arrived, I felt at ease and welcomed, and they went above and beyond throughout my stay. It was the best holiday I've had in years, and an unforgettable experience. I'm already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend it for a getaway.

The guides were fun to spend time with and shared their impressions of Indonesia. They arranged both a fishing outing and island hopping for us, and we enjoyed both. The hut was basic, though the beds were comfortable and the mosquito net kept the insects off. Hygiene was okay, but cats were sometimes fed from or allowed onto the table. The natural setting is wonderful, and the place has a real secluded-island feel.
