Rocky Plaza Hotel Padang

The location is handy, near the local market, money changer, and restaurants, and we got a clean, good room. The hotel is a little old, but the stay was good. The restaurant needs improvement: smoking and non-smoking areas are in the same room, so smoke still reached us.

I paid a lot and got very poor service. The TV uses Wi-Fi, but the Wi-Fi was always off. I reported it to the hotel, and nothing was done before checkout. The toilet also had a lot of damage.

Laundry turned into a miserable ordeal. They quoted me a price, then after the washing was done demanded twenty times that amount and kept my clothes. I was stuck waiting at the hotel for hours, and finally got them back after paying half. I thought I was a hotel guest, but felt like a hostage. It was deeply disheartening. My time matters more than money, but acting ethically matters much more.

The rooms are well maintained, and there are special arrangements and rooms for disabled guests. The hotel feels cozy, has a good ambience, and includes a nice swimming pool. Breakfast has a good range of options, and room service is available, though food can take a while to arrive. Staff are hospitable and speak English well, but the hotel team seems disorganized and housekeeping still needs to improve. The restaurant itself is hygienic and well kept. It isn't crowded all the time, though the views aren't great. Wi-Fi is very slow. There's an ATM outside the hotel for local currency, and the bar serves beer and wine, with few options and no other alcohol.
