The location is good, less than a 10-minute walk to the beach, with a small mall about 15 minutes away on foot. But the rest of the stay was awful. I can't recall staying in a worse hotel, and I couldn't find much positive to say. The room was worn out, the fridge didn't work, and the TV wouldn't turn off unless I unplugged it. Neither the remote nor the TV's off switch worked. Cleanliness was at zero: the table lamp was covered in dust, and the shower tub and lamp showed just how bad it was. They brought a complimentary fruit platter with no knife, and a piece of cake with no spoon or fork. It sat there for three days, as if they expected me to eat it with my hands. Breakfast was mainly Indonesian food, so pay for it. The reception staff barely spoke English, and neither did the restaurant staff. I was invited to stay here, rather than choosing it myself, and I'm sure there are better places. The Google rating above 4 is totally misleading. This isn't based on one bad moment, it's the whole experience, especially cleanliness and room service, which I wouldn't accept being without at any hotel.

They charge per item, and the price for basic washing was outrageous. We paid 1.3 million IDR, about 80 USD, for laundry that wasn't even dry cleaning. The clothes weren't worth that much new, let alone just washed. During our six weeks in Indonesia, the same amount of laundry usually cost us 60k-100k, around 4-7 USD, at other hotels and villas. We checked in and asked whether they had laundry service, and I would never have sent it if I'd known the price. They scam westerners. Do not do laundry here!

I tried calling reception again and again, but nobody answered. Room service didn't answer either, despite many calls. The food didn't taste good, they overcharged me by 20k, and I ordered dessert but got nothing, with no explanation.

The breakfast was a bright spot, with good variety and quality, and the staff were consistently friendly. I also found the lobby paintings about the building's past and Padang's colonial legacy interesting, and the location is strategic. The swimming pool itself is decent, but the area around it isn't well kept, and the old, broken deckchairs take away from the experience. In the bathroom, water pressure is reportedly weak and there's no bidet. The AC also seems inefficient, with guests saying they still felt warm when it was set to 16°C. Hotel Truntum Padang, formerly Hotel Inna Muara, has historical value as a colonial-era property, but the room condition falls short of what I'd expect from a 4-star hotel. Dirty walls with visible marks, old stained sheets, dated furniture, and misaligned lighting make a poor first impression. These are basic maintenance issues for any hotel, especially one presented as premium. Despite the heritage and potential, cleanliness, outdated facilities, and upkeep detract significantly from the stay. Some guests have said they hesitate to return. Without major improvements, it may be remembered more for its nostalgic potential than actual comfort.

We stayed one night before our flight back to Malaysia, and the hotel was pleasant enough. The staff at the counter were welcoming, and the breakfast had a decent range of choices. We booked two connecting rooms for my mom and us. She’s traditional and wasn’t happy that the toilet had no bidet. The pool is quite small, so don’t expect much there. I also noticed lots of Malaysians staying here, so I guess it’s a popular choice for people visiting Padang.
