Hotel Grand Duta Palembang

Getting around is easy from here, whether you're coming from the train station or heading into central Palembang. The building doesn't look modern, but the facilities surprised me with how complete they were. My room was roomy, tidy, and clean, and the price for the place was one of the best I've found in Palembang.

The room was the best part for me: I had a double standard room on the third floor, with plenty of space and a comfortable feel. The interior looked fancy, and there was a big cupboard, a wide desk, and a little tea table. They also provided two bottles of water, toiletries, two clean towels, and flip-flops. Hot water worked in the bathtub, and the AC was fine. The TV picture was pale and blurry, with few channels, and the Wi-Fi in my room was weak. For an affordable hotel, the service was great and check-in was easy. There’s an elevator, and the hotel is still in central Palembang. An Alfamart is right next door.

The food was greasy, and I have serious concerns about its quality. Several people in my group got food poisoning, and some had to be taken to the hospital. Maybe the quality has improved since then, but I personally wouldn't risk it again. The rooms themselves were pretty decent, with working showers, a bathtub, and AC.

I usually stay here when I'm in the city on business. It’s handy for shopping, with Ramayana Department Store and Palembang Indah Mall nearby, and the staff are kind and helpful. The room is clean and fairly comfortable, with hot water, a bathtub, Wi-Fi, and a refrigerator that was recently added. The food is inexpensive, though the taste is just so-so. The furniture is old, and little problems come up now and then. Sometimes the fan stops working, even though there’s AC too, and at other times the toilet doesn’t flush properly. The building is old, I suppose. Watch out for purse snatchers on Radial Street. I learned that the hard way :(
