Grand Tamaro Hotel

The location right in the city made it easy to find nearby restaurants, and the reception service was good. The room was fair for the price, but the Wi-Fi was very poor. There was no internet on the second floor because the modem was shared with the first floor. Staff said they had “reset” it, but the connection never improved, since there was no modem of its own upstairs. Breakfast has room for improvement. It runs from 7 AM to 10 AM, but they didn’t seem to refill the food. The porridge, for example, was gone around 8:30 AM and wasn’t topped up for later guests. Get up early if you want the full selection.

Our room was clean and basic, and the hotel is well located. The lake view from our 3rd floor deluxe suite was quite good, and the breakfast buffet had a reasonable choice. The main downside was the noise. Karaoke from the basement restaurant was really loud until late at night, and there was more loud music or singing from the same place at 7am. Apart from that, it’s a reasonably good place to stay.

We booked a room with three beds but got two beds and an extra mattress instead. There was no Wi-Fi at all. Staff said the signal was weak because the hotel was full, but there was actually no signal. The air conditioner wasn’t working properly, and nearby karaoke was extremely loud and disruptive. A very disappointing stay.

The staff were kind and helpful, and there was live music and karaoke in the evening, with food and drinks at decent prices. The room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was good for a hotel of this rating. There are two pools, one in the hotel and another across the street with a view of Lake Toba.
