Medewi Surf Villa

We’ve been here 11 days as a base for surfing and really love it. The pool is right outside our door, there’s a comfortable common room, and the shower has hot water. Coffee shop and Rastas Cafe are just up the lane, and the price is great. Eddie and his family are awesome, and he can arrange transport, scooters, surf lessons, or local merchandise. It’s a slightly old villa in a local community, with lots of charm and character, so don’t expect a five-star hotel. If you want somewhere calm to unwind after surfing or exploring at a reasonable price, give Eddie a yell. If you’re after champagne tastes on a beer budget, you’d be better off at one of the multinational hotels in kuta. I’ll definitely come back.

The layout has two small twin rooms sharing a kitchen, plus one double room upstairs. Cooking there felt inconvenient, and the pool, though it looks large, is 1.7 m deep, too deep for children. The water wasn’t clean. The place felt rundown, the towels were old and thin, and the photos look very outdated. I’m not sure where the other photos came from.

All three of us thought the breakfast omelet was the best we’d ever had, whatever magic went into those eggs. Edi and his family made us feel so welcome, and the rooftop has panoramic views over working rice fields. Such a lovely hidden spot for morning coffee. 10/10.

Each morning brought a different homemade breakfast, and it was really good. Our room was lovely, with the door opening toward the pool. Eddy and his family were so kind and always ready to help, and they arranged mopeds for us to use during our three-night stay, which made things much easier.
