The location is the only real plus, and I can’t recommend this resort. We were there for six nights in bungalow 29 and found it very dirty and badly maintained, even though we knew it was basic. There were spiderwebs above the bed, the towels had lost their whiteness, the bathroom was dirty with hair in it, and the wall tiles looked like they’d never been cleaned. The mirror was disgusting too. The curtains and furniture looked like they were from the 90s. We asked housekeeping to clean the bathroom better, but saw no difference when we returned. It really needs a renovation. We started searching for another hotel after the first night, but the island was fully booked because of the Chinese holiday Golden Week. Breakfast was very basic, and there was nothing vegan. After the first day, they did buy soy milk so I could at least have cereal, which was nice.

I spent a month at this lovely resort, located on a large, family-owned coconut farm along the ring road, between the two ferry terminals. The hotel section has very large, well-appointed rooms, plus a huge traditional-roofed reception and lounge where you can relax out of the sun. The pool is spacious enough for me to swim 2 km without too many turns. Everything was clean, and the staff were friendly and well trained. Breakfast was varied and always nice; the modern cafe had a great pizza oven as well as tasty, inexpensive local meals. Scuba businesses offering training on the coral reefs are only about a hundred metres away, and boats for trips to swim with mantas and other sights are anchored at the resort entrance. I travel alone, so I didn’t get a close look at the family bungalows, but they were built around the same time as the hotel rooms and I’d imagine they have similar modern conveniences. As someone interested in birds, I was pleasantly surprised to see one of the world’s rarest birds, a white myna, visiting the large native trees among the coconut palms. They ate small fig-like berries near the breakfast area. Apparently only about 140 survive worldwide. They not only live here, but are beginning to thrive because cats and other predators from Bali are discouraged from the farm. All in all, I highly recommend the resort. Mike

The peaceful setting made the trip feel relaxing, and getting around Nusa Penida was convenient from here. Ring Sameton Resort Hotel is close to the beach and within easy reach of the island’s famous destinations. A comfortable, well-situated place to stay. I had a great experience.

There’s a large garden and the rooms are spacious, comfortable, and clean. The staff are friendly and ready to help, and the harbor isn’t too far away. You can get a range of food at the hotel if you don’t feel like going out. They can also arrange snorkeling or land trips around Nusa Penida, and there are plenty of dive centers nearby.

We spent a week here and found it adequate overall. The bungalow room was huge, the shower had hot water, and the AC worked well enough. The resort itself is old and worn, though, with an overgrown, mossy garden and cracks and holes around the pool. Since the room was at ground level in the jungle, we had bugs, spiders, and lizards inside. Staff brought us three safety boxes, but none worked, and they eventually gave up on finding one. Still, the stay was fine.
