Margarita Surf Hostel Canggu

My gym clothes disappeared after I left them drying on a table while I went out. They were new, branded, and expensive. When I asked the night staff, they told me to check with the cleaners in the morning. The next day, I was told the shorts had been thrown away because the table wasn't the right place to hang clothes. They said it should have been obvious that anything left in the wrong place would be treated as garbage. I don't believe they were actually thrown out. I suspect someone on staff took them. Either way, losing them through theft or carelessness is unacceptable. The staff laughed when I asked for an explanation, and when I requested the owner's contact, they gave me another guest's number. The owner didn't take responsibility and mocked me with, “if you want, you can stay longer.” I felt insulted and disrespected. I'd been living in Bali for a year when I stayed here, and this was the worst place I've experienced there. The bathrooms were never cleaned, the internet barely worked, and the beds and general hygiene were awful. Nobody, staff or owner, accepted responsibility. If I could rate it below one star, I would. A total waste of money and a terrible experience I wouldn't wish on any tourist.

I stayed for 8 days and rented a motorbike for a week, but left before either period was over because I was so disappointed with the hostel's service. On my first day, a male manager yelled at me when he could have spoken politely. I also got unpleasant treatment while renting the bike. The room, pool, and even the pillows were dirty, and the hostel is down a narrow, rocky alley that felt scary. I hadn't planned to leave a bad review, but I was upset by Mrs. D saying I didn't respect her and complained too much. I actually cleaned the room myself and didn't complain about its dirtiness. This is just my own experience, and I'm sorry it turned out this way.

The mattress smelled bad and there were no pillowcases. I booked because the listing said lockers were available, but they were all locked and the staff no longer had the keys. When I asked for a refund because of that, the “manager” refused and ran off to avoid talking to me. I had valuable belongings I didn't want to leave out. I wouldn't stay here.

Really enjoyed staying here. The room was big and clean, the location by the beach was nice, and I met good people. I'd recommend it.
