Villa Ambra

The staff and food are what took Villa Ambra from a great stay to an unforgettable one. Putu, the villa manager, greeted us on our first day and came by every day afterwards to say hello and check in. Another 18 staff members kept everything immaculate, despite our four children running riot at times, and looked after every need. They were discreet, friendly, and spoke great English. Often we barely saw them unless they were playing with the kids or getting a meal or drink ready. Nothing was too much trouble. There was a bell to call them, but we never needed it because they seemed to know what we wanted before we asked. The chef-made meals, chosen from their menus, were extraordinary, from salads and Asian, seafood, or BBQ nights to desserts. Some of the best food I’ve ever had, and we didn’t want to eat elsewhere. Homemade sorbet and ice creams were free, and the best I’ve tasted. The villa itself is superbly set right on the beach. It has five large ocean-facing bedrooms, all with gorgeous big bathrooms and beautiful decor, plus a study and library full of books and games, a big cinema room, table tennis, and a massage room. The layout makes great use of the space, with plenty of places to spend time. We enjoyed sunset cocktails in the sunken lounge, while the whole family could spend hours in the large adult pool, swimming laps or floating on inflatables. The kids’ infinity pool at the top was ideal for our young children, right by the main outdoor dining area, so we could keep an eye on them. Our five-year-olds spent most of their time there or in the spa. A pool fence is available if needed. I’ve worked as a travel agent for 20 years and have stayed in many kinds of luxury accommodation around the world. Villa Ambra was simply wow, one of my best experiences. We had a driver for up to eight hours a day, though we rarely wanted to leave the villa. On the few times we used the service, the drivers were very accommodating. The complex also has a gym and tennis court, and staff can arrange a yoga class on the beachfront grass area. My husband loved the surf break right outside. He’d get up before everyone else, have a coffee before heading into the waves, then come back for a buffet breakfast and massage. Whether you’re coming with friends, family, or for a corporate getaway, I can’t recommend Villa Ambra highly enough. Future trips to Bali won’t feel complete without at least a few nights here.
