Bromo View Hotel

We had a very comfortable night here. The staff were kind and helpful, and the food was delicious. Breakfast came with several choices, including gudeg, fried rice, fruit, toast, jam, tea, juice, infused water, pudding, and cake. They also provided dinner for two in each room and a welcome drink for every guest. The hotel isn't new or modern, but it was clean, with a large parking area, a tidy room, and a comfortable bed. I liked the attractive lobby, too. As a diabetic, I was able to keep my insulin supplies in the restaurant fridge.

The lobby is nicely decorated, but several issues need attention. Some of the rooms we booked had leaks, the old air conditioners need maintenance, and both the toilet and towels smelled bad.

I woke up in the night to the mosque next door. The call to prayer started around 3 a.m. and continued until nearly 4. It was incredibly loud, and even my high-end earplugs couldn't block it. The pillows were unusually large and firm, so I ended up using a packing cube instead. We had a very unpleasant, restless night. The bed sheets had light stains, and there was sand and dirt where we were meant to sleep. The bathroom had a musty smell, as many do in Indonesia, but it didn't feel clean; there was even toilet paper stuck to the wall.

I was in ground floor room no. 4, and it was hard to rest because there was almost no soundproofing. Traffic from the busy road carried on all night. The room was beside the stairs, so footsteps, especially from women's footwear, were a big disturbance. A car alarm in the parking area in front of the room went off every hour, and cats were screaming and fighting. The nearby mosque was very loud at 4:30 a.m. Power kept cutting out, and each time it came back the air conditioner stayed off, so I had to restart it manually. That happened at least four times, past midnight. The cups, saucers, and towel weren't very clean. The bathroom was also poorly cleaned and so dimly lit that I had to shave without light on my face. Breakfast was very basic: two kinds of fruit, bread, butter, jam, an omelette counter, rice, and two dishes to eat with it. Date of stay: August 2022
