The bed was comfortable, the staff were friendly, and the room TV was a nice touch. They also let us fill our water bottles, though I’m not sure if that’s included, and it should be. We stayed one night before hiking Mt Bromo. It’s still about an hour’s drive from the mountain, but a pleasant enough place to sleep for a night. The shower had no hot water, the AC barely cooled the room, and the towel was more like a hand towel than a body towel.

For 220idr, the double room came with a fan, bathroom, and simple breakfast. It’s close to the bus station for buses to Bromo, and if you’re going there, leave early. The room was clean and comfortable, the fan was powerful, and the bathroom was clean too. There was no sink, but that seems common in Java guesthouses. Having stayed in other guesthouses around Java at similar prices, this one felt hotel standard. I’d happily stay again.

The new homestay has 22 rooms on two floors and is naturally clean. There’s 24-hour front desk staff and security, plus pickup service and regular transport to Ijen Crater or Bali. The parking area is spacious enough for a medium-size bus with capacity for 31 people.

The receptionist was great, and it’s easy to get to, with a supermarket nearby. A standard room with a fan is 200rp, and a superior room with AC is 250rp. We looked at two hotels right nearby, and this homestay cost the same as them but was much cleaner and more comfortable. It’s fairly new, and by far the cleanest of the ones we checked.

They offer free pickup from the Probolinggo bus and train stations, and the main road to Bromo is accessible from here. The rooms are clean and have a fresh look. Staff were friendly, and the owners were happy to mingle with us. I’ll come back to see the whale migration at Bentar beach.
