Imam Bonjol Hostel

This is a clean, affordable hostel with good hospitality and a handy location for getting around. You can rent a motorbike or bicycle. There's an indomart at ground level, with the hostel right above it. They have single-bed rooms with sliding beds for one or two people, priced at Rp. 110.000 for one person and Rp. 165.000 for two. Rooms for three or more people have different prices. All rooms have air conditioning, but bathrooms are shared, with eight in total. Wi-Fi and gallon drinking water are free, and you can borrow a towel. Shampoo and shower gel are provided, while toothbrushes and toothpaste are for purchase. No smoking in the rooms, no breakfast, but the gym is free.

The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom clean, and the service and general condition were good. The hostel is near popular Semarang attractions, Simpang 5 and Lawang Sewu, with a convenience store directly underneath. Just know there are only stairs, no lift, so bags are a challenge, and there are no bathrooms in the rooms. Still a nice, cozy place.

For about €5 a night, this place works well if you just need somewhere to stay before heading to the airport or train station. It's not pretty or especially nice, but it's fairly clean, and the staff are friendly and try to speak English.

The alley is wide, and the room was clean and air conditioned. There are cheap food options within walking distance. For breakfast, walk about 50M northwest, on the right when you're facing out from the hotel. Someone sells traditional food and snacks from a table on the sidewalk, but only from 6 to 9am, so get there in time.
