For AU$20 a night, I did get a clean room, and the bed was comfortable. Still, it was a tough stay. There was no hot water, so showers were cold, and the bathroom power point was up on the ceiling, about three metres high. Bad karaoke carried into the room until 7 pm, while people in the next room partied every night, including a girl squealing. The mosque’s call to prayer sounded from across the rice paddy at 4:30 am and 7:30 pm.

The room was spacious and clean, with a balcony overlooking the rice fields, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The big pool is great for exercise. That said, it’s noisy: the mosque is so loud at 4 am that it woke us and made it hard to sleep, and children start making noise in the pool from 8 am. Good for recreation and a swim, but not for relaxing.
