That hillside view at HK Villa was the highlight for us. The climb up is pretty steep, though the place isn’t far from Sembalun’s first village, and the scenery makes the drive worthwhile. We stopped for lunch with my husband and our one-year-old while visiting Sembalun. The menu had a good mix of Indonesian and Western food at regular restaurant prices. I got spaghetti, my husband ordered nasi ayam, and we added fries for our little one, plus coffee to have with the view. My one complaint: there’s no separate smoking area, so people smoke near places where small children are around. I hope management considers setting one up. Great food and scenery, and a nice family stop while exploring Sembalun.

The view across Sembalun town, the rice fields and the mountains is lovely, and the air is fresh. The room itself had several problems. The wooden floor was very slippery, maybe from a greasy cleaning product or wood stain, and there wasn’t much seating. Wi-Fi was often unavailable or wouldn’t connect. Breakfast was very basic for the room price. Hot water also didn’t meet the needs of our five-person room: the tank took time to heat, then ran out after two people showered. There was gecko droppings on parts of the top-floor beds.

Lots of spots around the place for photos, and the setting and location are excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was just fine. I had a really pleasant stay. Worth spending a night here. 🫶🏻

Really enjoyed the whole stay. Great place to stay, and the food was very good. Big recommendation.

We only stopped for a drink. The fields look lovely from here, but come in the morning or during the day rather than at sunset. The mojito wasn’t much like a mojito, more like lemonade with a bit of alcohol.
