Nusantara Hotel & Restaurant

There’s lots of room to gather, including a big restaurant, and a large pool for swimming. The place has a nice atmosphere and plenty of flowers. The boss provided very good service. Best hotel in Sembalun.

The room was the main reason I’d come back. Our deluxe room was very clean, with everything listed: a comfortable king bed, air conditioning, fridge, hair dryer, kettle, and good lighting. Everything worked well, though I missed having slippers because the floor was really cold. There’s also a swimming pool. Check-in at 11:30 pm was awkward. The hotel seemed closed, nobody was at the counter, and a man opened the gate and called someone to check our booking. After about 8 minutes on the phone, he took us to the room without offering to help with our luggage. Breakfast was very basic. We chose plain fried rice, which came with a small omelette, and soup noodles with red chilies, carrots, and eggs. The soup was spicy. The coffee was made with powder, and some was still floating in the cup, so I switched to a tea bag. We wanted to do laundry, but were told it couldn’t be done that day and were advised to use an outside laundry service. Early in the morning, the gated deer farm beside our room was noisy, with the animals walking around. For what we paid, we got a great room and had a good stay. I’d return for the room and amenities.

The location is convenient, the pool was lovely, and the view of Rinjani was a highlight. But the rooms were dirty, smelly, and run down, which was surprising given how beautiful the exterior looked. The mothball smell was so strong it made us nauseous. Our mugs had lipstick marks, hair was on the bathroom floor when we arrived, and the bathroom itself was falling apart. The bed was very uncomfortable. There was no fan, air conditioning, or mosquito net, and the window had no screen. We only had a fitted sheet and a thick blanket, with no top sheet or lighter blanket. Front desk staff weren’t especially friendly, welcoming, or accommodating. At that price, I’d suggest one of the many other places in Sembalun.

Clean place, friendly people, beautiful gardens, and stunning views. The swimming pool is big, and it seems ideal for families with kids. Best value for money in Sembalun.
