The place was pleasant, but we were unhappy with one staff member. We were soaked from the rain and hurried from the parking area to the closest covered spot, the lobby, before going to our room. The pool is lovely, the balcony views are very nice, and the staff are lovely. The location is very good, and the free beer for guests on Wednesdays was a nice extra. For the price it was comfortable and fine, though don’t expect warm showers or perfectly clean rooms and sheets. You get what you pay for.

By 3:00 am I had to get out of the room and sleep in my car in the hotel car park because of bed bugs. I’d stayed here three times in the previous 12 months, and those rooms had been clean and seemed freshly renovated. They were also much cheaper than what I paid this time. After a very late check-in following a 22-hour ferry trip, all I wanted was sleep. As soon as I entered, the room smelled strongly of mould. I’ve lived here for 20 years and know what to expect, but the smell was especially strong in the sheets and pillows. I put the bath towel over the pillows because I worried they’d make me sick, but still felt ill. Then my face and body started itching as I tried to sleep. I suspect there was too much cheap laundry powder left unrinsed. The bed bugs kept biting me under the sheets, and I got out of bed several times to turn on the lights and found more red welts each time. The room was old, run down, and badly neglected. The shower curtain had black mould spots, the floor looked filthy, and the walls were disgusting. Some power sockets were loose and dirty, and some were broken. The only bedside lamp was broken and lopsided, with no bulb. A bright light outside shone through the thin curtain all night, and there was no way to switch it off. The dirty, rusty fridge looked like it had been scavenged from a rubbish tip and was far too old. Whenever its compressor kicked in, it was as noisy as my car idling. One of the usual two side tables was missing. The entry door scraped heavily on the floor and had to be forced open. The wooden ceiling panels above the pillows were rotted, obviously from roof leaks. No wonder the pillow smelled so bad. A totally disgusting room and a horrible experience.

The location was perfect and very peaceful, and the place was much more beautiful than we expected. They have room service, motorbike rental, and a swimming pool. The best part was the amazing breakfast for vegetarians! We left at 5 am and they prepared a breakfast package for us. We highly recommend this lovely hostel :)
