The Country House

The pool is tucked away from the center, so we had lovely privacy there. The gardens are beautifully cared for, with lots of open space and lush jungle all around. Our room was clean and comfortable, with tasteful decor, and the host was friendly and welcoming. It’s also conveniently close to Senggigi center. We’d absolutely come back.

The best part for me was the people I met, including other guests, local pickleball players and Jim, the owner. He’s multilingual, well traveled and educated, with plenty of stories to share. On my last night, Jim took me to Stanley for dinner. I had the best steak and roasted potatoes, easily on par with or better than famous European restaurants, and for a fraction of the price. I spent a week at The Country House after deciding to try a smaller place instead of the big hotel chains I usually book in Asia. I’m glad I did and enjoyed every minute. My room was spotless, as were the lobby, kitchen, dining rooms and parlour. There was lots of bottled water, and I reused the bottles and refilled them in the kitchen. Ask the staff where the refill station is if you need help finding it. Restaurants and shops are about a 5-10 minute cab ride away. You can call a cab or get food delivered. At the property, you can join hikes or play pickleball with whoever’s around. Even as a beginner, I always found someone to play with. Thanks to Jim and all the staff for taking good care of me. Monkeys showed up around dusk each evening! The staff also organize a hash run somewhere on Lombok twice a week, and guests can join. We did, and got to hike through forest in the island’s interior, which was great. It’s a lovely little hotel in sengiggi, set up in the hills beside a small river. There’s loads of shade, so it feels cooler and quieter than many places in town. The National park is right next door for an easy nature walk. There’s a great pool and a tennis court too.

The garden is lovely, with a tennis court and swimming pool, and you’re close to nature and Senggigi beaches. The rooms are thoughtfully put together. What makes The County House special, though, is the people. We got to try pickleball, delicious Indonesian food and hashrunning. I’d recommend it in a heartbeat.
