The bathroom was kind of gross, and there were stains on the walls, though the room was mostly clean. This is okay if you're after budget accommodation, especially as a backpacker couple. For that price, you get what you pay for. I'd recommend spending more and staying somewhere else if you can.

The man who looked after us was very nice, so I can't fault him. But the place needs a cleanup and some care. The sheets were stained, the AC barely worked, and there was a strong damp smell. The door was also really loud and creaky. At £6 a night, I guess you get what you pay for.

In Mengwi, the clean rooms sit among wooden bungalows scattered through a lush garden. It's a beautiful place, and the staff are attentive and helpful.

There was mold everywhere, and when I was about to lie down, I found the bed completely covered in ants. The manager only agreed to change the sheets after I'd asked several times. It seemed like they kept spraying a lot of toxic chemicals instead of cleaning anything. The hygiene felt so poor it was a health risk.
