The room matched the photos, and it was clean and practical. The food was good and reasonably priced. But the stay had some serious problems. There was no hot water, despite what was advertised, and the curtains barely blocked the sunlight. Noise was another issue: traffic and motorcycles could be heard, people were loud in the morning, probably the owners, and karaoke played every evening at an extremely unpleasant volume. Sleeping past 6:30 a.m. was difficult. We also had a bad experience with the owners over a booking. We reached Samosir around 6:30 p.m. and called because the homestay hadn't answered our messages asking for directions. The manager told us to cancel that night, said we'd be refunded, and said we could book somewhere else. The next day, we were told a refund wasn't possible. Booking agreed to make an exception after we contacted them, but the hotel still refused, even after we spoke with them for about an hour. We felt we'd been cheated out of one night's payment and really disliked being lied to. I understand wanting to make money, but this went too far. I'm not sure Western guests will enjoy staying here.
