The hosts at Pavilion Semar were kind, quick to help, and sorted out each problem as soon as we reported it. That made a difference, because there were a few. The first day, there was no body wash; it was brought the next day. Hot water was unreliable too. After one report, it was fixed, but then stopped again. We were told the gas was running low and couldn’t heat the water properly. The shower taps kept leaking, and after heavy rain, the ceiling leaked in one room. Luckily, nothing was against that wall. We had a room on the second floor. There isn’t much to look at from the balcony, and both the building’s exterior and interior feel old-fashioned and historic, though the facilities are quite modern. The basics were all in good shape: beds, wardrobes, chairs, ACs, lights, wifi, clean towels, and bedsheets. Air circulation could be better. Parking takes some coordination. Three cars can line up, but if the one at the back needs to leave, the others have to move out of the way too. So you may inconvenience someone or have them inconvenience you. We only had to ask others to move once. After that, the other cars were gone. You also have to open and close the gates whenever you come or go. We’d give this homestay a solid 4 out of 5, maybe even 4.5, because the issues were dealt with so quickly. The parking setup can’t really be fixed, though. We loved our stay here.

Stayed here for a month as an exchange student and had a really good time. The rooms were clean and nice, and the owners were friendly and very helpful. 10/10.

We’re students from France studying in Indonesia, and after traveling around quite a bit, this was one of the better places we’ve stayed. The people here are polite and always willing to help. Bu Darno Homestay has a Javanese-style house with western standard facilities, a green yard, and a cozy spot to hang out. Motorbikes are available to rent nearby, which made getting around easy. I’d definitely recommend it for either a short or long stay.

I stayed for over a month and loved every minute. It’s quiet, the gardens and ponds are immaculate, and the beds are decent. You also get drinking water, toilet paper, soap, housekeeping, and good hot water. Bram is a fantastic host, quick to respond and always polite. There are lots of good warungs within walking distance. The location works well for visiting Prambanan, about a half-hour drive away. Borobodour takes a bit longer, but it’s still easier than staying farther south since you can get onto the ring road. Next time I’m back in Jogja, I’ll stay here again.

I lived here for a year. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and set up like self-contained apartments. It’s close to everything, including good coffee and warungs. Ibu Darno is a wonderful person and made us feel like part of the family.
