Ubu Villa Sujiva

It’s a lovely, clean villa, and the caretaker responds quickly. When I mentioned that the hot water wasn’t working, they helped right away. There’s a private pool and bathtub, and the place really feels like a 5-star property. The kitchen is in front of the MBG, so it can get a bit noisy. With kids, it seems ideal: they can play in the pool and look out over the rice fields. For a quiet getaway, though, it may not be the best fit.

The room and service were good, but the water heater wasn’t working. Be ready for a cold shower.

Inside, the villa was very clean and spacious, which gave my two kids plenty of room to play. The toilet was clean too, and there was a small kitchen with cooking utensils, a refrigerator, and a working hot and cold water dispenser. The pool worked and looked out over lovely rice fields. When we visited, rice planting was underway, and the kids had a great time watching the farmers in the morning. There were lots of insects around the rice field, which I expected, but some got into the bedroom area. I’m not sure what they were, but they were big and had claws. At bedtime I found a lot of woodlice on the wooden sofa. I shone a flashlight to look closer, and some had even reached the pillow. I didn’t sleep well because I was worried about bedbugs, and with a baby along I went so far as to cover it with a blanket. The divan may need to be dismantled, there seemed to be so many bedbugs. The approach was a surprise at first: the villa is tucked behind a building, and construction was going on when we arrived. I asked whether the front was the MBG kitchen, since there were quite a few workmen there, but the area turned out to be quiet and safe. Breakfast was pretty ordinary for the price, and could be improved. That was the only other downside, thanks.
