Diamond Hotel by OYO

I’d seen the bad Google reviews about the room condition, so I went to check the hotel before paying online. The front desk staff member said I couldn’t see a room without paying. I asked what would happen if there was a problem with the room I got, but he stayed quiet. Another staff member politely told him he could show me one. On the way to the lift, I noticed two ground floor rooms with keys hanging from their doorknobs. I asked if anyone was in them, and he said no. He agreed when I asked to see those rooms, but back at the desk, the first staff member said they couldn’t open the doors because the keycards only activate after payment. That’s when I left. It felt very dodgy. I’ve never stayed there, and I never will.

They’ve made a lot of improvements to the rooms, but the furniture is still old. I booked a cheap suite, and it was spacious, though it smelled old and damp enough that I kept coughing. Then a cockroach showed up. I hate cockroaches. The main issue was the AC, which was hot. We asked to move to a smaller room, and I’d assumed the AC would be the same old type everywhere. I was right. The smaller room was better, though it had no fridge. Its AC was just as old, but the room was tiny enough that we could finally sleep. There was no kettle or water dispenser in the hall. It’s cheap and clean enough for a quick overnight stop, but not a staycation.

At this price, it's not a bad deal. The room could use a closer clean, and the AC needs servicing since it doesn't get very cold. At check-in, Syariah Hotel requires proof of marriage.

A low-cost place for a night when all you need is somewhere to sleep. The rooms are more or less clean, but maintenance seems neglected. The old AC takes a while to cool the room, and it doesn't feel like the Oyo standard I expected.
