Villa Mata Hari

We felt at home at Villa Mata Hari. Lia took wonderful care of me, helping with transport for each excursion, suggesting key places to visit in Bali, and making sure I felt welcome. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and the garden and pool were beautifully maintained. The service was superb, and the food and drinks were delicious. A special thanks to Lia and Ni Luh for the pancakes and coffee every morning. The villa sits in a peaceful tropical spot high on a mountain. From there, you can watch sunrises and sunsets over the forest, with the ocean in the distance. It's a great base for seeing North Bali's attractions, including Sambangan's waterfalls and Lovina's dolphin watching tour. I miss the villa and Lia already, and I'll definitely be back. 100/10!

The peaceful neighborhood and gorgeous views made this a relaxing place to stay. We loved the food, too. Lia and her staff prepared delicious meals that really added to the experience. The rescued animals were another highlight. They're sweet and well behaved, happy to give you affection or leave you alone if that's what you prefer. Lia welcomed us from the start and made us feel at home. She's one of the warmest, most helpful hosts we've met, always doing extra to make the stay special. Our rooms were immaculate and tastefully furnished, cozy and luxurious at the same time, more like a friend's home than a hotel. We only stayed three nights but fell in love with the atmosphere and the animals. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and plan to return. Highly recommended! ❤️❤️❤️ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The views are incredible from all over the property, with rainforest below, Lovina in the distance, and the calm blue ocean beyond. We loved the outdoor communal dining area, especially the long table and cool breeze. The in-house chef Lilu cooked fantastic food. The Beef Rendang was a generous serving and so tasty I wanted more. Leia, the owner, made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. She shared local tips on places to eat and see, helped with bookings and getting around, and seemed to know the weather better than the radar. The friendly cats and dogs greeted us at the gate whenever we returned, each with their own personality. Steve was there too and explained the Singaporean influence in the building design, which made sense once he pointed it out. Our room was spacious and clean, with everything we needed and a very comfortable bed. It took some willpower to get up and swim or ride down to Lovina, about 10-15 minutes away on our scooters. The bathroom had a large shower and lovely hot water. The infinity pool is designed to take in the view, with several ledges and platforms to sit or stand on. Leia clearly takes pride in the gardens, which add to the peaceful feel of the place day and night. I can't recommend Villa Mata Hari enough. This will be my place to stay whenever I'm in north Bali.

We loved our stay so much that we changed our flights and added more time here. Lia and Steve have clearly thought through all the little things guests need, and we felt welcome, valued, and at home. They even arranged a pickup and ride home from the local restaurant Secret Garden. Their pets are gorgeous and clearly very loved, and the same care comes through in how they look after guests. The food was incredible, cooked with care, and the beds were so comfortable it was hard to get up. Everything was impeccably clean, and the pool and its views were spectacular. Nature around the property was beautiful, too. Lia and Steve gave us world-class hospitality and are amazing people. It's hard to imagine a more enjoyable stay at a hotel or guest house anywhere. For a relaxing getaway, this is the place. We're grateful we found it and can't wait to visit again.
