There's no roomy table for bigger bags or belongings, which was a little inconvenient. Apart from that, the comfortable bed and good food in the dining area made for a nice stay, and the price felt fair. Deka Hotel is right on HR Muhammad Street, one of Surabaya's main food and lifestyle areas, across from Vasa Hotel Surabaya.

For a low budget hotel, it was comfortable, quiet, and relaxing for a layover. It's easy to find and near some popular malls, and the staff were polite and really friendly. The food was unusual and tasty. It's welcoming for solo travellers, peaceful without feeling creepy. There are budget rooms, like the ones in my photos, as well as deluxe rooms, and all have a nice city view. The cleanliness, AC, and water quality were excellent. Highly recommend! ♥️

The breakfast itself was fairly tasty for a 2 star hotel, and the staff were polite, helpful, and quick to clear tables. Still, the toaster and kitchen wall looked dirty and worn, and I saw a small cockroach near the plates and cups. The chef could also present the food better. The building and room condition made this a poor experience for my wife and me. I hope the owner, who also owns a large food factory, invests more in upgrading the facilities. We stayed one night. The first thing I noticed in the lobby was a damp-clothes smell. Reception on the 6th floor was a little better, but felt gloomy, old, and dark. Check-in was quick, though I was disappointed to have to leave money as a guarantee for an extra key card. I ask for one because I go to the smoking area at night. Most hotels don't do this anymore, and key cards are cheap enough that a hotel won't go bankrupt if one isn't returned. Our room was on the 10th floor, and the hall smelled too. Maybe it was the carpet, I'm not sure, but management should address it. Room 1014 was tiny and smelled as well. The TV was broken, with three bright white spots on the screen. The toilet and shower were separate, but both were very small and had no wall hooks. The AC was cool, and there were two mini bags of peanuts and two small bottles of water in the minibar. Everything was mini, even the towel 🤣

Nasi Gandul is delicious, and you can just go downstairs to eat without heading out. There aren't many mini markets nearby. The room's small but nice, though the cleanliness could be better.
