Fairfield by Marriott Surabaya

The most striking part is the pool high over the city, sitting between two tall towers joined by a bridge. Or perhaps the pool is what links them. It brings to mind two young lovers held together by some invisible but undeniable bond. That feeling seems strongest around sunrise and sunset, when everything looks lovely but fleeting, as if the beauty is there to be felt rather than kept. Walking into Fairfield Surabaya has a dreamy, slightly unreal feel to it, like stepping into a quiet corner of fairytopia or a field of fairies. It all seems a little too magical to be accidental.

The staff were lovely throughout, and the breakfast buffet had free ice cream and cappucino, which were the best parts. Beyond that, this didn't match the Marriot standard I've seen in other cities, and there's plenty to improve. My pillow smelled, which really bothered me. I arrived around 4-5 pm and traffic to the hotel was bad, so I ordered food online instead of getting stuck in another jam. The window design also felt like something from a two-star hotel, sorry to say 🙏.

The breakfast had a good selection and tasted good, and everyone was friendly. The room layout worked well and the shower had good pressure, so it was decent for a short stay. Still, for a Marriott, the towels should be changed regularly, and the carpet and bathroom need proper deep cleaning. I'd stay again when travelling solo.

The staff were friendly, always smiling, and ready to help. I also really appreciated the restaurant team making special rawon for my grandma at breakfast. Thank you for that 🙏🙏🙏😁😊 There were quite a few things that could be better during our family stay from August 15th to August 17th. The food was disappointing: the french fries were bland, the steamed rice was still hard and needed more water, and the Thailand crispy dory I had at Kava Restaurant on August 17th was also a bit tough and hard to swallow. The bed pillows felt too firm, and the Samsung TV had such poor, unclear picture quality that it wasn't enjoyable to watch. The phone in my room didn't work at all, so the hotel's equipment needs more attention. I was also surprised by how limited the breakfast menu was, with little variety in food or drinks. A varied menu is a real plus for a hotel, and for a four-star place, I'm sure it could be better 😁🙏.
