I couldn't sleep properly because of the noise above the room. It sounded like either mice or cats.

The setting is handy for a stopover to rest from busy Surabaya, and Ampel Mosque is only a few meters away. Inside, the homestay feels like the Dutch colonial era. The facilities are minimal, the bathrooms are shared outside the rooms, and parking is limited in the crowded alley.

There's a comfortable blanket, and the room is quiet, clean, and cozy, with a clean bathroom and cold AC. I felt at home and would stay again if I visit Ampel. One thing to keep in mind: it seems the Ampel alley gate is locked at night, perhaps for residents' safety, since people make pilgrimages there from morning until night. If you're staying over, don't arrive late in case the gate is shut.

Booked this place, got here at 1 p.m., and the gate was closed. What a joke.
