Life Hotel Sudirman Surabaya

Salim greeted us when we arrived and was very friendly and kind. He also gave us a free upgrade to a higher room category. The hotel is right in the heart of the city, with easy access everywhere. Drinks and snacks are available to buy at the front desk. Highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is in a good location, and the waiters responded quickly when we asked for something. But I'm not a big fan of the place. We visited in October 2025, and the welcome was poor: despite booking two months ahead, we were told another person had our room. All the standard rooms were booked, so we had to take an upgrade. We were charged for it. After 20 minutes of discussing with the hotel holder that this wasn't right, we got only 50% off the upgrade cost. The room was okay, but the facilities had scratches and dirt. The towels were dirty, and there were insects in the bathroom. Odd for an upgraded room.

At check-in we were moved to an upgraded room because the one we'd booked had sold out. There were cockroaches and other bugs all over the room and bathroom. We switched rooms, but bugs were still everywhere. The sheets were stained, paint and wallpaper were peeling, and it was very noisy. Avoid!

I walked past the cleaning room on the second floor and it looked like a trash room. Towels and pillow covers had been thrown onto the dirty floor. It was disgusting. The towels and pillows in the hotel weren't much better than dirty mats, with dust still on them. I think they hadn't even been washed, because I had just arrived and there was hair all over the bed. This hotel badly needs to review how it handles cleaning, so I can only give it one star.
