MIRA inn Kayoon Surabaya City Center

This is a cheap, worthwhile option for travelers or backpackers who plan to spend most of their time out and just need a place to sleep. The room was cozy and fine for two people. The air conditioner didn't cool it quickly, which was rough in Surabaya's warm midday weather, and the bathroom door wouldn't stay closed or lock. At that time, breakfast was four slices of toast brought to my room. Luckily, it's a non-smoking hotel, or there's a fine.

Friendly staff and a great location. The room was small but enough for one person. They only provide one towel for free, and the other amenities cost extra. The water pressure was low, so I had to stand very close to the shower, with a good chance of accidentally hitting the hot water handle and getting a hot or cold surprise.

This inn is in a strategic location and has single rooms with private bathrooms, which seemed a better choice during the pandemic than capsule hotels with shared bathrooms. I had to pay a 100k deposit upfront. My room was on the fourth floor, and there was no lift, just stairs. I didn't mind, but it's useful to know if you need one. The room was small, not very tidy or clean, and had moderate lighting. The AC worked well, luckily. There was a mirror, a little desk, and a chair, but no cabinet, cupboard, or other place to put luggage or belongings. Basic toiletries were available and charged at checkout, with price tags already attached so you could see the cost. I'd suggest bringing your own supplies, including a towel. Sometimes the room smelled of HCl cleaning liquid from the bathroom, so that door should be kept shut. Water pressure was low and made things take longer. I couldn't detect any wifi from my room.

The room was quite clean, and the hot water, AC, and wifi all worked well, though the bedroom lighting was a bit dim. The room itself was pretty narrow, and the bathroom needs to be cleaner. There was no elevator. A towel was provided, but no other amenities. Check-in was quick, and the receptionist was friendly. They took a 100,000 IDR deposit, which we got back at checkout. Circle K is nearby, so it's easy to pick up things you need.
