Surabaya River View Hotel

Dito deserves a special thank you for upgrading my room at no charge. I really enjoyed the stay: the room was spacious and comfortable, the staff were all friendly, breakfast was included with a decent range of options, and the location was convenient. The swimming pool was nice too. It was an easy, pleasant visit.

The rooms are spacious, though the bathrooms in particular could use an update. We couldn’t use the safe because someone hadn’t reset it, and the hotel hadn’t been told about that. There’s a rooftop pool and restaurant. The pool’s deep end is about 1.5/6m, and the sides can be slippery, so take care. Breakfast starts at 6am and has a decent selection in the lobby. Staff were friendly and helpful. If you drive up to the lobby entrance, watch out because the driveway is very steep.

The rooftop cafe has lovely 360-degree city views, especially at night, and there’s a pool up there too. The location is right downtown, close to everything. We stayed two nights in two rooms for our family of five, without breakfast. The rooms were spacious enough for all of us with an extra bed, which we hadn’t expected. We had rooms 11007 and 8. If you’re booking overnight, try room number xxxx7, preferably on the top floor, for a great sunrise view. Corner rooms also come with an extra sofa because of the building layout. Getting in takes some getting used to: the access road is narrow and uphill, so cars with low clearance need to be careful. Parking space is limited, with a two-level raised system using hydraulics. Security guards help park and keep your car keys. It might be useful for management to add a hanger in the bathroom, since there isn’t one. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to people visiting Surabaya.

The room rates are affordable, and the staff were friendly, polite, and quick to handle requests, which made the stay more pleasant. The pool area was disappointing, though. There were quite a few cigarette butts around, making it feel neglected and unclean. The room’s drainage was poor and made showering inconvenient, and the parking area is small enough to be a problem for guests with cars. The service and pricing are good, but the hotel needs to improve cleanliness and facilities for guests.
