ZEN Rooms Basic Kalimas Sunan Ampel

It's a basic place.

That one star says enough. The location is close to the Sunan Ampel religious site and the Arab village, which are the positives. The rooms were dirty and full of fleas, and the bathrooms smelled musty. The layout wasn't ideal, and the AC blew straight onto the body. The facilities were lacking, and the rooms didn't match the Google photos or what I'd booked. The Zen rooms were also different from the ones shown on the website.

I did manage to get a good night's sleep, so it wasn't all bad. The receptionist was friendly, and that's where the one star comes from. But there was no hot water in the bathroom, despite what the official website said. Paying at the hotel also meant breakfast was automatically excluded. :-)

I liked the classic feel of the building. It's near a religious tourist spot, and there are plenty of people selling food along the road.
