Sumatra Surf Resort

The floor was dusty, and when we arrived to check in, the staff hadn’t cleaned the room yet. There was moss all over the bathroom, including around the rusty sink. The bed felt cheap, and the lighting made the room feel unpleasant.

There’s lots of room around the resort, and the outdoor areas are nice. The staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming, and the location was perfect. Our room was getting a little old, but it was clean, spacious, and functional, with great air conditioning. Thanks so much for having us.

The place up the road was chalk and cheese compared with this one, despite costing the same. I stayed here last year, and the rooms were falling apart, the beds were shocking, and the bathrooms were so bad we washed ourselves in the swimming pool and outdoor shower. I’ve travelled all around the world and never stayed somewhere with facilities this bad. It was very disappointing. The first attached photos are of this resort, and the second set is of the resort up the road.

The good things were the clean pool, comfy king bed, quiet setting, spacious and pretty grounds, lovely staff, and a great location right by the point for surfing. But the place felt neglected and a little abandoned, with little ambience, and the photos set the wrong expectations. The bar and eating area felt depressing. We found the food very average, though breakfast was okay, and we ate elsewhere most days even though we’d prepaid. We stayed five nights and the room was never cleaned, so I had to ask for clean towels and toilet paper. The boards were in poor condition too. It felt very overpriced for what you get compared with other places. I hate writing negative reviews, but I don’t want others to get caught out. I personally wouldn’t recommend staying here.
