Hotel Kencana by OYO Rooms

The location is right by the alun alun, where the local crowd gathers. Once you walk out of the hotel gate, there are lots of pushcart vendors and street stalls selling junk food along the corners. Some locals may want to try “Bakso rudal,” about 130 meters away, with an Indomaret right in front of the stand. It gets pretty hectic at night, but the rooms are fairly isolated from the noise. For the price, this place is fine and very cheap, around 120 to 250. A 150K room seems to come with AC, hot water, and Wi-Fi. There’s also a simple breakfast and parking for cars and motorbikes. It’s clean and suits transit, solo travelers, or backpackers, as long as you don’t expect service like a 3-star hotel or above. Unfortunately, not all bathrooms have been changed to standard sitting toilets.

The location in Tegal is strategic, near slun2 and the train station. It’s just enough for a rest, but cleanliness needs to improve. Staff should be friendlier and give guests some information. The electricity tripped more than twice, even with only the AC and room lights on.

The OYO price is good news for a budget traveler like me. The room is decent enough for a business traveler.

Being right by the Tegal town square is handy. The service takes some patience, though.
