I've been coming to Black Penny for about 13 years, many times, and love how quiet and tucked away it is. The staff are all so nice. Even if they don't quite understand what you're saying, you can communicate just fine, and most speak English very well. I love getting breakfast delivered to my room, and it's so good. The restaurant is gorgeous over the jungle, and the villa pools are stunning. There is a little upkeep needed right now, which is normal with guests back to back. It's mostly cosmetic, like a few loose pool tiles and a bathroom drain issue. The pizza is the best I've had in Ubud, with real crust. I'd recommend this place to anyone!

The food at the villa was so tasty we ate nearly half our meals there, and the room was spotless with a fantastic view. What made the stay feel like home, though, was how welcoming and kind the staff were. Desak was especially kind. Every part of our stay was fantastic.

I can't recall the room now, but I do remember calling to request the room I'd heard about from fellow travelers, and they arranged that one. We stayed for a night in 2020, and although we booked through a third party, the hotel took care of everything. It was a wonderful experience. The room had a private pool with a fountain and an incredible view. Sharing a few photos of the room and breakfast.

Desak, Nikita, dewa avu, and fiska deserve a special thanks. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the food was very good too. Beautiful villas, lovely rooms with great amenities, and amazing views made for an unforgettable stay. Highly recommend when visiting Ubud.

The villa has a big comfy bed, a patio, and a private infinity pool looking out over the jungle, so it was perfect for a private escape. The room service, location, and friendly staff were all 5* and more. One thing to know, there are lots of stairs down to the villa and back up to the restaurant, so it won't suit people with mobility issues. For us, it was perfection. The cooking class was a must and a highlight of the trip.
