Virmas Private Villa

The villa was private, comfortable and beautifully designed, with lush greenery all around. We loved waking to jungle sounds and having such peaceful mornings. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful without getting in the way. It gave us the calm, authentic Ubud, Bali experience we were hoping for. We’d absolutely stay again, it’s an easy 5 stars 😉

It’s peaceful and away from the bustle, but still close to good restaurants and the things you need. For the price, having your own pool is a fantastic deal, and the place has the amenities of a luxury hotel without the high cost. Adi was a sweet, attentive host, and his friend Gusti was just as welcoming and kind. You’ll have an easier time with your own transport, though. Food delivery and getting Gojek & Grab rides accepted can sometimes be difficult. I’d definitely stay again next time I’m in Bali, 10/10.

The pictures are really misleading. In person it looked drab, dated and dirty. The towels and linen were stained, and so were the decking area and pool. The white curtain around the bed was filthy and completely covered in mould. We also found crickets, huntsman spiders and lizards in the room, plus lizard poop on the ground. And the roosters were so loud, waking us at 4am every morning. We liked being away from the center because we wanted a more relaxed start to the holiday, but the journey in and out took about 40 minutes, nearly twice as long as the map said. The bigger issue was privacy. We booked a private villa for that reason, but ground staff kept coming through our area without warning. While my partner and I were out on the deck, my partner saw a staff member peeking through the adjoining door at us. It was cheap and gave us somewhere to stay. If it had been clean and actually private, I would’ve really enjoyed it, but it failed badly on both.

The green surroundings were lovely, and having one of the three villas to ourselves was nice. The room was roomy too, but basic facilities were missing, including a phone to reach anyone. We were given a WhatsApp number and the person was responsive there. Finding the place was confusing because the booking app called it 'Segening Villa' while Google Maps listed Virma's Private Villa. It’s quite isolated, which may suit people avoiding crowds, though the road there is completely dark with no lights. The bed’s white canopy curtain had stains, the sheets didn’t seem washed, and the pool water was very dirty and cloudy.
