The gym was great, and having a pool was a nice bonus. The rooms themselves were pretty average, though. I knocked off two stars because urinal blocks were scattered around the floor, leaving the whole place smelling strongly of bleach.

For what they charge, the service is better than expected and the room quality is decent. Our room really needs renovating, though. Some paint touch-ups and basic repairs would go a long way, and could help Royal Brongto feel like a luxury hotel.

The classic style is lovely, and the place is very comfortable for the price. The hot water takes too long to fill the bathtub, though. Please improve that. Otherwise, a very good hotel.

We especially loved the large pool and the gym, and the grounds were beautifully maintained, with lots of greenery, birds, and butterflies. The staff were kind and helpful throughout. Our room was spacious and clean, the mattress was comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water for a soak in the big tub. We really enjoyed our stay and will come back next time we're in Yogyakarta.

The bathroom felt a little damp, but that was my only downside. I loved how clean and well-kept this classic heritage hotel is, and you can take lovely photos right on the grounds. It's close to the Palace and nearby food spots like Nanamia pizza, Bu Ageng, and Monggo gelato. The price is very affordable for the friendly, helpful service. The hot water flow was far better than at other hotels in the same price range. They also lend bicycles for free, and there's no deposit.
