Indonesia Hotel Malioboro

The location is the main advantage: Malioboro Street is an easy walk away, Gudeg Lindu is directly across the road, and Tugu Station is also within walking distance. Staff are very friendly. There’s ample motorbike parking inside, and though the front car park fits only about two or three cars, apparently you can park inside as well. The restaurant serves tasty food at friendly prices, but the menu is limited. The hotel has a homey, old-fashioned feel, and the room was narrow, damp and short on natural light. You can choose a fan or air conditioning, but in our room the AC pointed straight at the bed while the TV faced the opposite wall. The biggest drawback was no hot water for bathing.

I learned my lesson here. The location is close to Tugu train station, and the staff were friendly and professional, but the hotel feels old-fashioned. I booked a cheap room without AC, then asked to move to one with AC. Since I’d already been there over an hour, they wanted the full cost, so I checked out and booked another hotel with better facilities and a better rate. The room without AC was hot, humid and extremely uncomfortable, and the fan did nothing. I found two cockroaches in the bathroom and the sheets were dirty, so the hygiene seemed questionable. It wasn’t worth the price; I’d rather stay in a cheaper, more comfortable capsule hotel. The AC room costs a lot, and there are better options nearby.

The staff were polite and the office boys worked hard to keep the hotel clean, but the room I got was old and the high-season price wasn’t cheap. This is a low-budget hotel, so don’t expect much: mine smelled bad, had a poor bathroom, and the bed sheet was stained. There was no wardrobe or towel hanger, just one rusty nail on the bathroom door, and no standing rack for drying a wet towel. There was no hot water or spray hose by the toilet, which would make things difficult after using it. I’ve stayed in other budget hotels, and this was the worst. It needs a lot of improvement. Maybe there are newer rooms, but I didn’t look around.

I got a room by luck on Saturday morning. I walked from Tugu Station to one hotel, but it had no vacancy and suggested I contact Indonesia Hotel. The first impression was good: the gate sits about 30 m back from the street, so it felt calm and protected from traffic noise. The room and service were standard for a budget hotel, and the place was kept clean and tidy.
