Madina inn Hotel & Hostel Yogyakarta

The hostel bed was nice, and the receptionist was really kind. The location was good too. I did have a few issues: it was hard to get internet from my bed, the toilet was almost dirty, and there wasn’t enough tissue.

On 28 April 2023 at 7:10pm, my sister was praying while I was lying on the bed in our room at Madina inn, Taman Siswa Jogjakarta. A male staff member opened the door with a master key. I shouted in shock, and he left the door ajar instead of closing it, then said he’d opened the wrong room and apologised. We were two women in the room, and he could have walked in while we were undressed. I was frightened and furious. The inn presents itself as a shariah inn, but this mistake left us feeling extremely vulnerable and unsafe. We complained to both the front desk and room service, but only got a placating apology that didn’t ease our shock or fear. We were two women traveling on our own and didn’t feel safe there after that. It’s a shame because the room itself was spacious and clean, and the shower worked well. I’d booked two rooms, one for two nights and one for five. There was only one key per room, and taking it out of the slot shut off the room’s power, including the fridge, so don’t leave anything in there that could spoil. After what happened, though, we felt unsafe as female travelers.

A simple but lovely place to stay in Jogja. The architecture is something I really liked. It’s on Taman Siswa street, with easy access to lots of food stalls. Tempo Gelato is right next to the building, and Pantiez Pizza is across the way. They have both shared and private rooms, so you can pick whichever suits you.

The rooms were clean, and everyone working there greeted me with a smile. I enjoyed my stay, especially how secure the hotel felt. Thank you for everything. If I return, I’ll definitely stay here again.
