Tjokro Style Yogyakarta

We enjoyed our staycation in the end, though the hotel had a few issues. Breakfast had plenty of choices and we still enjoyed it, even when weekend refills meant waiting. We also saw the view from our room and the seventh-floor rooftop, and went swimming despite the cold water and air. I was told towels were available by the pool, but staff said they would be brought soon, and none appeared before I finished swimming. The location is close to downtown Yogyakarta and easy to find on Maps. We booked four rooms through the Sleep By SAS hospitality app and got a better price than on OTAs. Check-in was easy, and all our rooms were on the same floor. Room 301 was much smaller than the others. In room 310, the bed had triple sheets instead of duvets. The front desk had no spare duvet, so they gave us another blanket, but the linen still felt uncomfortable and looked brand new. We ended up moving a duvet from another room. In my room, 312, the hot water was only a little warm, even after I turned the bidet to hot. The shower floor was slippery, so we had to watch our step. There was just one glass and one hanger in the bathroom. Most of the rooms we booked had a musty bed smell, which we tried to cover with perfume spray.

The beds were comfortable and the sheets clean, but we found lots of little cockroaches. Keep your bags zipped or you could take one home. I killed another in the bathroom as it crawled up the toilet mirror. The place feels old and dated, and the carpets look dirty and need replacing. Rooms are small.

We stayed here for our honeymoon while exploring Yogyakarta. It’s in a handy spot, right by lots of food options, and a great affordable place to stay.

A very good budget hotel, and the breakfast was good too.
