The restaurant was a highlight for me: the food was delicious, had a homemade feel and came in satisfying portions. There are options for different times of day, including vegetarian and vegan dishes, and the bar and lounge are friendly spots where locals and guests often spend time. Darnley Lodge Hotel sits in Athboy’s historic center and has a quiet, welcoming atmosphere, with traditional Irish charm and the comforts you need. The building has local historical importance, having served as the office of the Darnley family, influential in the region since the 18th century. If you’re interested in history, remains of Athboy’s medieval town walls from the 14th century are nearby. A simple, comfortable stay with a real Irish countryside feel.

I used to live in Athboy and came back for a meal after many years away. The food was top tier restaurant quality, and the prices were reasonable. Service was frequent and professional, and nothing seemed to be a problem. The portions were big, and the servers were very pleasant and accommodating. They clearly value your custom and want you to return. Highly recommend.

I only came in for a carvery meal, so I can’t comment on the rooms. The public areas were clean and tidy, the food was hot, tasty and generously portioned, and the service was really good.

I was here with a hen party and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. They were so friendly and helpful, especially Paddy the night porter, and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was beautiful, and the rooms were lovely and clean.
