Prince of Wales Hotel

At $55 per person, this high tea was very poor value. I found a dark hair in my dry, tasteless scone and sent it back. They apologized, but it didn’t change our bill. The bread was stale throughout, including the egg-filled croissants, and the smoked salmon sandwiches were on stale white bread and weren’t a traditional high tea sandwich. My niece had mentioned when booking that two of us had birthdays, but the server said nothing about them. We’ve had high tea in many towns and cities, and this was the worst by far. We came specifically for High Tea at the Prince of Wales Hotel in downtown Niagara-On-The-Lake, and left very disappointed.

The location was spot on, right in the centre with everything within walking distance, and there was free parking too. We only stayed one night, but it was memorable. The room was lovely and quiet, with everything we needed, including an iron, ironing board and hairdryer. We had dinner there and enjoyed the food, then a great breakfast. Definitely try the scrambled eggs. The staff were lovely, and we’ll be back.

The three of us got such a friendly welcome from reception, who explained the hotel amenities and suggested places to see around town. Our room was spotless and had everything we needed, including a coffee machine with pods, tea and a kettle. Since it was Friday, there was even a Crunchie each. The shower was amazing, and the bar food was top class too. From beginning to end, the stay was excellent. I’d come back in a heartbeat and have no hesitation recommending it.

Athlone’s centre is right there, so we could walk everywhere, and we had a lovely meal in the bar. The room was on the small side, but that didn’t bother us. Staff were really friendly, and we loved the Crunchie with the note, “Thank crunchy it's Friday.” It’s the little things. We’d stay again.
