The Skellig Lodge & Hostel

Tereza was the best part of our stay. She was so kind, messaged on arrival day to say the room was ready before I got there, and checked in during our stay to make sure all was well. The room was clean and cozy, with an ensuite, a great electric shower, and a wall heater for the bathroom. The bed was comfy, and there was an electric heater in the bedroom too, which we could turn on or off. The other guests were respectful and considerate.

For low-budget accommodation, most of the facilities were about what you'd expect. But the bathroom sink taps didn't work properly, and there was no hot water for showers. Hygiene was poor: stained, ripped sheets, a filthy floor, sticky dining tables, and a horrible smell from the kitchen. Staff were rude and made us uncomfortable. Three days after we left, they also complained to us about taking complimentary toiletries from reception. We definitely won't return.

The place itself is decent for budget accommodation, and the facilities are acceptable, but the staff and management were extremely rude and quite aggressive. They gave us orders instead of explaining the policies. Two days after we left, our lead organiser was harassed by phone about missing toiletries. We all felt offended, especially since toiletries were supposed to be part of the service, which had fallen far short. It's a pity this place is run by people with no customer service knowledge or approach. We definitely wouldn't recommend it because of the staff's attitude. One star is too much.

The views are beautiful, and I imagine the stars would be lovely at night, but the place was dirty, the windows murky, and the kitchen smelled of very stale food. People in room number 3 were smoking inside the hostel, so secondhand smoke was everywhere. There were food mixers and electric frying pans, things you don't usually find in hostels, but I couldn't sleep in such a filthy, nasty, smelly place. Frieda wasn't there, or maybe her friendliness could have brought my score up to 2. This place is a dump.
