The room itself made it hard to rest. Its floor sloped enough that the bed did too, and lying on it felt like I might roll off. I could also hear other guests through the thin walls late into the night, and they didn’t seem to care that people were trying to sleep. On top of that, train whistles and departure announcements came through all night. I chose this B&B because it was close to the station, but that closeness was a bit much. It cost less than other hotels nearby, but still wasn’t worth the price.

The owner was easily the nicest woman you could meet, kind, funny, and so accommodating. We’d booked Clon Ross, but when we arrived we were told we’d be staying at Oaklands instead, just a one minute walk up the road. The old house felt homely, and our small room was enough for us. The shower was a decent size, though its door was very narrow. The bathroom wasn’t great: there was mould on the walls and ceiling, the toilet seat was broken, and the reused M&S hand soap bottle had mould inside. We could only find one plug socket, too. None of that put a damper on our stay. It’s a nice spot close to town, and the owner is the best governess you’ll find!

Just a small place for an overnight stop by the railway station. The rooms aren’t comfortable: the furniture is arranged so badly there’s no room to walk, and there’s nowhere to plug in the kettle.

Breakfast was delicious and the service there was great. This B&B has been running for decades, and we were glad we found Oakland's. There’s no parking on site, though. We took our chances with the street parking out front and got a ticket on our last morning. We still used the car for day trips.

The price is low, the service is fine, and breakfast is good. Ellen and her husband are lovely, and so is the staff. Our room was clean and had what we needed, the shower was clean and easy to use, and the bed was comfortable. The house is within walking distance of the centre and near buses to the centre and railway station. It’s a good place to stay.
