Clifton Court Hotel

The bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They kept our luggage until the room was ready, and the location is very central. But the room was tiny, filthy, and dusty. The bathroom was so cramped you could barely move, and there was no hand soap. Wallpaper was coming off, there was mould everywhere, and the room light switch didn't work. There's no lift either, so we had to carry heavy cases up to the top floor.

The staff were lovely, and I liked the bar and restaurant. The room was mediocre, though. The mattress was awful, and I left the sheets off because I needed the extra padding to keep from feeling the springs. The Wi-Fi was unreliable, and there was mould in the shower. You can see poor patch jobs on the walls, and they're so thin that I could constantly hear people nearby. It feels like they're waiting to gut the place and renovate. Hopefully they do it soon.

The only real plus was the central location, and the receptionist was welcoming. I'd read the reviews beforehand and hoped things might be better, but the hotel was even worse than I expected. The small, enclosed room felt claustrophobic. There were handprints and blood stains on the bedroom walls, and the bathroom was tiny with no soap. The window wouldn't close, the room was extremely cold, and there was a lot of noise around us. I wouldn't recommend it.

A cheap and cheerful place for a city break, handy to everything. The room was clean and the bed was nice. My main complaint was the shower: getting a comfortable temperature was nearly impossible, as it went from freezing to skin-melting hot. The old shower head needs replacing too.
