Coppinger Row Apartment

I eat at Coppinger regularly and always enjoy how the menu shifts with the seasons. The fresh fish starters haven’t let me down, and the midweek lunch deal is good value. For a solo visit after work, I love sitting at the beautiful Connemara marble counter and watching Gill make cocktails. With a group, the round table by the window has a great feel, and Kevin made our last meal especially memorable. He was friendly, attentive and professional, and looked after all eight of us so well. The gambas and chateaubriand are favorites of mine, and I’m hoping to dine al fresco this summer. I find it rare to get such good food, service and atmosphere all together. Coppinger deserves a place near the top of the list for lunch or dinner in Dublin City centre.

We stopped in before the Irish match and had some lovely cocktails with the food. The prawns had great flavor, and the broth with them was just right. We ordered the beef rare, and it came very rare, so keep that in mind when ordering. It was lovely.

I’d been looking forward to having a meal somewhere other than a pub, so the food was a real letdown. The schnitzel came with a very small Caesar salad, less than a cup, and it was drenched in dressing. The pancetta seemed out of place and was hard to chew. The pork portion was huge, chewy and needed seasoning.

The food was very good once it finally arrived, and the overall quality impressed me. It took about 45 minutes, though, and a steak came out well done instead of medium. Sending it back added another 15 minutes, with no apology or acknowledgment, which was disappointing. Service otherwise was good. Coppinger had a lively atmosphere, but it was quite loud and may not suit everyone. Even with the wait and steak mix-up, I’d still recommend it for the food.
