The Fitzwilliam Hotel

We booked through Costco Travel and stayed at the Fitzwilliam Hotel for four days. The central location made it easy to carry out our plans, and we loved the room’s size and style, as well as the daily breakfast. From the start, the staff were friendly and incredibly helpful. They carried our bags up, walked us to the room, answered all our questions and were always available. We had an incredible experience and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Dublin.

The rooms were gorgeous, and the food and drinks were lovely too. We had a fabulous night at The Fitzwilliam hotel, helped along by its spot right beside the Luas. Shauna at reception made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived and went out of her way to help. Everyone else on the staff was friendly as well. We’d happily recommend it and hope to be back soon.

The food was a real highlight: I’d recommend the shrimp starter, clam chowder and fish and chips, and the restaurant cocktails are great, though really strong. Breakfast was quick and delicious, and the staff were lovely and always willing to help. I was choosing between here and the Shelbourne, and this turned out to suit me better. It felt more intimate and less busy, without the weddings, big family groups and parties I wanted to avoid. The hotel’s also very central. Next time I’d request a city view room if one’s available. I’d stay here again. They even found my earbuds after I lost them and shipped them all the way to Canada for a small fee, about $15, and I got them back. My only gripe was that they ran out of room biscuits on our second day. If that’s the problem, I can live with it.

The younger staff were welcoming and quick to help, but that wasn’t my experience with some of the older doormen. On several recent stays, they often gave little eye contact or greeting, whether I was arriving, heading out, or coming back. I’ve stayed at plenty of five-star hotels, and this is the first time arrival service has felt so lacking. With a hotel at this level, I’d expect a warm, professional welcome from everyone. I hope the feedback helps improve guests’ experience. On one check-in I had several bags, and some of the older doormen didn’t come out to assist until I’d already carried them to the entrance myself.
